This December SizzlingHotStock are bringing you a chance to win some fantastic prizes. Check out the group's blog for up to date prize lists and information.
And now, to the all-important contest.
You have all heard the saying that one image can speak a thousand words, well we're asking you now to think about creating a piece of art that helps to tell us a story.
Throughout history human beings have told many stories, and we want you focus on those stories that have long since become myth.
It can be from anything you like, Greek mythology, Roman, Norse, Celtic, Native American. Anything, so long as it is an actual myth or folk story and not one of your own making. And we want your art to help tell us that story. (We are very demanding ladies you know. )
You can create art based on anything from King Arthur to Odin.
For example, I might create a piece created on this tale I heard as a child:
An old lonely fisherman went walking on the beach one full moon, and in the pale moonlight he saw dozens of beautiful women dancing on the beach. He knew them to be Selkies - women who spent most of the month as a seal, but in the light of the full moon they could shed their seal-skin and come ashore as women. So entranced was he, that he wanted one of the Selkies for his wife, so he stole one of the discarded skins and hid it away.
When dawn came and one of the Selkies could not find her skin, he took her into his home and made her his wife. Where they were happy for years, although his wife would always sadden each full moon, and waste long hours each day sitting by the surf pining for her old home.
The Selkie was happy with the fisherman, and did not question why he forbade her to go into the loft.
One stormy night, when her husband was at sea, the wind blew in part of the roof. Even though it was forbidden, the Selkie climbed up into the loft to fix the roof, only to see her old seal-skin hanging from the rafters.
When the fisherman returned home, his wife and the seal-skin was gone.
You don't have to use that story, but for those of you who were unsure, you get the idea.
We have two categories of winner in this contest, Beginner and Advanced. So if you don't feel like you'd had enough practice to pull off the technical skill, you can enter into the Beginner category and still be in with a chance of winning some of our awesome prizes. But don't be put off by the word Advanced. We're not after a masterpiece that will sell for millions (unless you're planning on gifting it to us, which we can then auction off, and go on a cruise. )
The judges are as follows: charligal, Tasastock, tanit-isis-stock.
THE GOLDEN RULES
Your art can be in any visual medium. (No literature pieces.)
Your submission must be related to some kind of mythology or folklore, which you must point out/explain in your description (or at least hint to it, so we know what's going on )
Your submission must be a new piece of art created for this contest. Any submissions dated before the 01/12/2010 will not be accepted.
You can submit a total of 2 pieces of art.
Your submissions must be sent in a note titled "Mythology Contest" to Tasastock, and you must clearly state which category you would like your work to be submitted to. Failure to do so will result in the judges choosing your category for you.
The judges reserve the right to recategorize your work into the category they feel fits it best.
You have until the 31st January 9pm GMT to get your work entered.
The art must be your own. Obviously. And no joint-works or collabs are allowed.
If you use stock make sure you follow the provider's rules.
If you are donating a prize to this contest, that does not prevent you from entering.
Nothing is stopping you from donating a last minute prize or pimping this contest.
Just because the Twilight books are called a saga, it does not make them myth. And so are not applicable and are wholeheartedly discouraged.
We accept bribes in chocolate or moon-cheese only.

Update from last time....
I still can't wrap my head around this new DA. But! In an update from last time. I have work again. YAY. (or... nay?? well.. yay...) Which has left me with very little time. Or rather, A LOT of time in front of my computer because I'm working from home (YAY) but then too computered out by the end of the day to want to spend any more time on it (nay!) But oh well.. the things we do for this evil.. money stuff that apparently we all need to buy stuff we need to live. It's all a con if you ask me :P For those curious, I'm back doing product photography. Well, one website is photography and content, the other is, just content. Both are selling stuff I know nothing about. Handmade baby and kids clothes and ... high end beauty products. Anyone who knows me well knows that neither of these things is up my alley. But hey, at least with the baby clothes stuff I get to be quirky with my photos. :D (umm, for those interested. www.hunny-bunnies.co.uk, I met her whilst walking my dog. She's
Reminder!
First of all, as per my stock rules please remember to notify me if you use my stock via either a comment or a note. Relying on this Mention system is... well... it's not working. I've not been recieving the notification and I'm missing out on seeing your artwork. Which sucks! If you've done a piece using my stock and I haven't faved it, let me know because I promise you, I haven't seen it. This is an issue which has been going on for years, because I found some deviations from like 2011 and 2016 which were completely new to me, but from talking to the deviants it just looks like I lucked out and didn't get the notification. so, NOTE or COMMENT. thank you! :) I have reported this as a bug. but I'm on feedback number 23 now, and the second bug I reported still hasn't been fixed either so.. this will be fun. Also check out my photomanipulation mini challenge. Save this wedding photo for 500 points! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) k :) :) k:) :)
Photomanip mini challenge
Ok I admit defeat. My weapons are pencils and paintbrushes. Ink and paper. Not digital art. So I am asking for help. Anyone fancy a little challenge? (if its not for you but you know someone who might be interested please share!) This is a photo from my wedding, Tony is pratting about doing "singing in the rain" since, there had been a drought for months and on my wedding day, was the first time it rained in months. Typical. I have said that I should plan weddings in drought-ridden countries. I've attempted this myself with .... limited success. So I'm asking if anyone would like to have at it. Do whatever you want to the background, that bloody picnic table. Have a go. I only ask that you not go retouching our faces, I know previous edits with my photos have changed my nose to be really thin, but I would still like this to be a photo of myself and my husband as we are. and I know my teeth are a mess but i've long since come to terms with that. XD Other than not changing our
Just curious, how many bug reports so far?
So Eclipse has happened. After 5 minutes I thought, ok, well, it's here. I have a problem, let's report it Immediately after my first bug report, (about the fact that i can't adjust my cover photo position, tried with many different photos, only about 10% of them allowed me to adjust, and those looked naff as a cover. i wound up using one that looked ok without adjustment) had to submit a second one, which is kinda hilarious because it was about the bug-report file. Took me seven attempts to get my form submitted. (Same happened again with my second one about the fact that the report submission form is glitchy as anything.) So I'm having FUN. (can you get the sarcasm?) i'm not uploading anything today so i won't find any problems with that, nor do I have much more to do on here. but so far have had issues with 75% of what I've done on here so far today. which hasn't been much. change cover photo, report bug, (both problems) reply to a message worked fine. if this submits fine then
