These are from my day at the air show... where I spent a couple of miserable hours being rained on with freezing-cold wind trying to dislodge me from the sea-wall. These better be useful. :P

Very nice shots! The flying boat is a Consolidated PBY Catalina...they built them beginning in the mid-thirties to bomb enemy convoys. They kept making them through WWII. The first Catalinas could set down only on water. Later they added wheels (the round black thing under each wing). At the tips of the wings are floats which hinge downward and keep the plane stable when it's on the water.

My Dad used to fly in one of these (as mechanic) when he was in the Navy. He claimed to know some guys from a PBY whose engines conked out...supposedly they made a sail from some onboard canvas and sailed the thing back to Hawaii.

The very early plane appears to be a Bleriot monoplane like the first aircraft to cross the Channel in 1909. Don't know about the other one.

Forgive the history blather...I love these old planes.
