Do's and Don'ts of Stock Photography by Tasastock Do's and Don'ts of Stock Photography by Tasastock
I don't pretend to know everything. I am self taught in everything and a complete amateur.
But people keep asking me questions, and a couple have said I should do this. *shrugs* If it helps! :) Which I hope it does.

I have never made a tutorial before in my liiiiife. So this is pretty terribly thrown together XD
It's also pretty long, because I've covered a lot of things here. Stick with it and read it all the way through ;)

Any more questions, shoot! ;)

Thank you so much for all this information.
It's propably useful for both stockers and beginner models.

Any advise on how you can do to find a camera not as scary or irritating?

I was actually looking at your lighting tutorial but happened to see this next to it and gave it a look.  It is a very good read and amusing to read, there are many on Deviantart art who could learn from this.

It doesn't specifically apply to me but there are certainly some useful points I can take.  I know you say your an amateur but when I have looked through your stock previously it does look more professinal and stand out much more than most on DA.

Thanks for a useful tutorial.

Great tutorial. I really appreciate the honesty and integrety you have towards your art, and art in general. It is true that nudes can be very dramatic but a lot of people loose it in the 'trying to be sexy' instead it of being about the art. There are tons of great tips too in this tutorial for anyone looking into doing stock photography.

I'm not totally sure what the 'dead but sitting upright' pose is suppose to do for a perv.
I have a mental image, and I can't get it to be any dirtier than TV-14.
Enlighten me?

This is awesome, I have no idea why I've never seen it before! :hooray:

Maybe I'm being a naive little girl, but why would anyone ever want to see the soles of your feet? I walk around barefoot a lot, so my feet would probably be black, on top of being extremely callous-ridden. :giggle:

....

You don't have to answer that if you don't want to. ^^;

any tips for costumes for behind-the-cam-stockers? I seem to get my costumes all wrong whenever I shoot landscapes or objects.

Great tut though... I'm gonna fav it in the tut section of #stock-A-licious collections!

My stock is not used as often as I would like... but I guess it's just a matter of time before people discover the usability of them.

I don't make stock, but I sometimes use it. I would have added that when taking stock pictures of landscapes that are to be used as backgrounds, the photographer should leave room in the shot for the subject, i.e. either a painted figure or another stock photo of a figure in the foreground. It's frustrating to see that about 90% of the stock photos of landscapes do not leave room for anyone in the foreground. For me, this would have been the most important point to make. I like my art to focus on the subject- the thing that is not in the stock photo.
But your work seems to focus on making stock photos of the subject itself, and you seem to be very good at it, so I don't blame you for not including my point. Props for the excellent tutorial.

thank you :tighthug:

the only pictures i actually took specifically for this image were the ones the ones of similiar expressions, the duckface, myspace face one, the ones of the living room(space to shoot) they were all taken back to back in that room.
i then went out into the hallway to take the dark one, and then upstairs to take a photo of my messy room to show a bad space to shoot, take a picture of my tripod, and me with my self timer :P didn't really take that long.. all the others were just images from my stock gallery. took a while to put together but once i knew what i was writing and in what sort of order i wanted to write it in, it wasn't so bad :)
